R. J. Corman Railroad Group is searching for a Commercial Development Manager for the Western Ohio Lines, the Cleveland Line, and the Pennsylvania Lines. The Commercial Development Manager develops new sales and maintains existing sales accounts for assigned customer base within a designated geographic region. In addition, they develop and maintain short line customer relations and customer service for assigned region.

  • Determines the appropriate customer base for RJC shortlines, including railroad industry and industrial customers within a specific geographic region.
  • Provide recommendations concerning the pricing of short line services in view of being competitive in the regional market.
  • Develops annual sales goals by shortline, by customer, intended to generate repeat and new shortline revenue desired by the corporation.
  • Contacts, follows-through and follows-up with customers for the purpose of generating closed sales.
  • Coordinates generation of key contact lists for sales calls.
  • Assists in the development of marketing and promotional plan, then implements the plan to disperse information into the regional market to generate brand name recognition for RJC shortline services and capabilities.
  • Manages personal operating and entertainment expenses for development of sales and promotion within approved budget.
  • Works closely with the Director to track rail car fleet availability and operational capability to deliver customer shipments as committed.
  • Coordinates with the General Manager to take advantage of potential distribution center opportunities in support of railroad sales.
  • Coordinates with customer service personnel to insure high standard of customer service within the assigned region, or in absence of designated customer service personnel, provides customer service directly.
  • Troubleshoots and takes corrective action with regard to customer complaints.
  • Establishes and maintains accurate electronic and manual reporting procedures for regular and periodic sales performance reporting.
  • Maintains regular oral communications with the Director to facilitate business updates.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Four-year business-related degree, or equivalent work experience.
  • 2-4 years sales and/or marketing experience within a for-profit business concern.
  • Intermediate level personal computer application skills, including business and sales presentation applications.
  • Frequent business travel among all customer locations, company locations and sales conferences; limited lifting, up to 30 pounds for movement of office equipment and files; hand and finger dexterity for use of keyboard skills; ability to use video display terminal and telephonic equipment in course of work.
